1. Pumpkin: High in fiber and low in calories, pumpkin can help settle an upset tummy. Pumpkin is low in sodium and high in carotenoids, potassium and Vitamin C, and has some calcium and B vitamins. Put a scoop of canned pumpkin on top of your dog’s meal and watch him gobble it up in delight.
2. Green Beans: Frozen green beans make a great mid-day snack or training treat. You can also sprinkle them atop their food. Green beans are an excellent source of Vitamin K, fiber, Vitamin C, carotenoids, potassium, B vitamins, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, iron and manganese.
3. Carrots: Another great snack right out of the fridge are carrots. Carrots are packed with essential vitamins and nutrients such as carotenoids, fiber, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, potassium, magnesium, manganese, most of the B vitamins and phosphorus (which is required for energy production). Break a whole carrot in half or put half a handful of baby carrots in their dish at mealtime.
4. Bananas: Good for the brain and and muscles, dogs go crazy for this nutritionally-dense food. Bananas are rich in potassium, calcium, and other vitamins. Mash up a banana in your dog’s food or give them half a banana as a snack.

It is important that when you introduce these ingredients and others into your dog’s diet to do so slowly. Fruits and veggies are most nutritionally dense in their raw state, however if your dog turns his nose up at veggies try lightly steaming them and letting them cool before letting them try it. Also if your dog is currently overweight or has other serious health issues, be sure to check with your vet before adding anything to his/her diet.
